SPORTSMANSHIP

This season we will be adopting the handshake before the game rather then at the end.  The tradition of starting a game with a handshake is a widely recognized practice in many sports and games. The handshake serves several purposes at the beginning of a game:

• Sportsmanship and Respect: Handshakes symbolize respect, fair play, and good sportsmanship between opponents. By shaking hands before the game begins, players acknowledge each other's skills, demonstrate mutual respect, and set a positive tone for the competition.
• Establishing a Friendly Atmosphere: The handshake helps create a friendly and amicable environment. It allows players to interact with each other on a personal level before the competition intensifies. Starting the game with a handshake promotes camaraderie and can help alleviate any potential tension or animosity between opponents.
• Focus and Mental Preparation: The handshake ritual can help players mentally prepare for the game ahead. It allows them to momentarily connect with their opponents, acknowledge the upcoming challenge, and mentally shift into a competitive mindset.
• Symbolic Start: The handshake signifies the beginning of the game, emphasizing the transition from pre-game preparations to active competition. It acts as a symbolic gesture that marks the start of the battle between opponents.

Conversely, ending a game with a handshake is also a common practice in many sports. It serves similar purposes, such as showing respect, acknowledging the efforts of the opposing team, and maintaining good sportsmanship. However, starting the game with a handshake  from the beginning and sets the expectations for fair play and respectful behavior throughout the competition.
